With the melt in full swing, please be extra careful of ice on walkways and areas with overhanging roofs.
Melting snow causes runoff, which, after a cold night, can cause very slippery ice until the day warms up—so look down.
According to Robert Sibley in the Ottawa Citizen, man in Ottawa was badly injured when he was “struck on the head by a 100-kilogram chunk of ice as he walked along the sidewalk.” The man was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition. Icicle hazards are common during the melt—so look up.
Watch out for the ice and enjoy our well-deserved warmer weather!
